today

I am . . .
  • listening more, talking less
  • making check marks on my list - you know the list - the LIST!
  • laughing more
  • flushing dead mice (omg - or, as an FB friend said, better dead than alive)
  • drinking lemon water
  • trying something different with hair - still wondering about this - messy does appeal to me
  • thinking constantly about a friend that is in the middle of troubles
  • because of her troubles I am able to see any troubles I thought I had in a new light
  • I have no troubles
  • looking at gardening ideas - I know! Who am I?
  • I had Grammy fever - love love love watching all of it - red carpet love
  • scratch the above bullet - Grammys were not that good
  • learned how to remove a fake tattoo - which was easier once I looked at my favorite book, the internet
  • learned I can thrift shop and resist many of my obsessions, I left a few wooden bowls, clusters of glass fruit, and gray sweaters behind
  • although a gray dress, piece of handmade pottery, and a painting came home with me - some things I cannot resist
We got a bit of snow yesterday - it was a lovely afternoon watching it swirling about.

Just Like Audrey Hepburn

It's been a long and hot summer.

And, as mentioned, I've been wearing nothing but skirts, dresses, tanks. Nothing with legs or sleeves. My happiest days are when I can say, "I'm wearing only two things!" Pup usually says, "Take one off!"

That's how hot it's been. And now it's September. And still pretty hot. And I work retail. Where you're running around. And I'm hot. I just am!

Yesterday morning I had to open at The Turnstyle. I haven't opened in a loooooong time. In fact a lot of this hot summer I wasn't at work at all with all the Barnabee squiring I was involved in (smooches Barnabee).

Before I leave for work I stand in front of my closet. Peering into its depths. There is more in there than needs to be - hey, I'm a woman. But just between you and me? That closet is out of control. No matter how much I edit and purge and ween out crap, it's full full full.

Imagine the sound of hangers being shuttled to the left, click click click. I go deeper and deeper.

Aha! A little black dress. Sleeveless. To the knee. A kick pleat in the back. Price tag still on. WTH?

A woman phenomenon. We buy stuff on sale. My favorite phrase is, "It costs less than a latte!" Nothing makes me happier than a price tag with several strikes through the price making it lower and lower and than it's thrown in a 75 percent off rack. Oh the heaven of it all. Even at The Turnstyle, a consignment store, I love when it's at least 50 percent off.

But I digress, of course.

I clip off the tag. Look lovingly at the price. "Ooooo, that was a good shopping day." I slip on the dress.

I like to turn to the side, suck everything in perfectly, admire my front bumps and back bumps, and convince myself how amazing I look. Hey - it's all presentation. Even when you catch a glimpse of the back bump in motion. Oye vey!

I throw my badly behaved hair up high in a clip, pull out some very artful hangy-pieces (yup - otherwise known as what-the-hell hair) and call it a day.

I trot off to work where new young un interim manager/intern Izzy and Shelley-belly tell me I look just like Audrey Hepburn.

Yup, I look exactly like this, right down to the sunglasses and coffee.
Oh the power of a little black dress! And be quiet y'all. A girl can have a moment yes?

Hooches - repeat after me - I may not be everything, but I sure am something!

Go get em!

Baby, It's Hot Outside

What dreadful hot weather we have! It keeps me in a continual state of inelegance.
~ Jane Austen

It was so hot today the National Weather Service issued a fat-guy-in-tank-top warning.

It's spring fever! That is what the name of it is. And when you've got it, you want - oh, you don't quite know what it is you do want, but it just fairly makes your heart ache, you want it so!
~ Mark Twain

If heat rises, then shouldn't hell be cold?
~ Unknown

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I haven't talked about it much, but it's been damn weird here in Minnesota.
No snow (nearly so) all winter. Not cold all winter. Now it's been in the 80s.
My poor body doesn't know what to do. I'm hot. Hot. Not that kind of hot (well, maybe the random comment from time to time - I don't take them personally), but hot.
At work I'm BEGGING the cold-hearted and cold-blooded girls to please turn the temps down. Don't they have any heat inside of them?
Sleeping up in the loft is killing me I'm so hot. Pup still wants his bed heater on. I'm exaggerating a little, but not much.
I keep thinking I'm having an endless hot flash, and then I remember. When I was in my 20s and 30s I was hot ALL THE TIME. Could it be I have finally, after months of working with my patient, kind, and puzzled compounding pharmacist, could it be that I've reached a level of balance with my hormones? And this is how I'm supposed to be?
I better figure out what to do with my hair! I'm hot!
What's it like where y'all are?
How's Your Hair?
Yeah! I have bad hair! I have to straighten and straighten to get it to even borderline-behave. Which do you prefer? :)
Sidebar: I cannot take my eyes off of the smudges on Pup's filing cabinets. Makes me CRAZY! lol
BTW - I am wearing purple in support of Spirit Day:
Millions of Americans wear purple on Spirit Day as a sign of support for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) youth and to speak out against bullying.
What are you doing on this wonderful day?
Smooches my hooches.
My Hair! Arg!
I am just not loving it.
I went a bit shorter and suddenly I have a mom-cut. Arg!
Poopy-shitty.
Here are a few I'm liking . . .
Please forgive the Jessica picture. The hair is good!
I don't have good hair. I color it (gray ugh!) and it's frizzy if I don't flat iron it. I can wear it curly, but I'm not loving that lately.
I think I'm having a crisis.
