A Post a Day Keeps the Januaryitis Away

That's what I'm thinking. I'm writing every day this month just to see. Some of you may want to look away. It could get mesmerizing, oops, I might have meant, mortifying.

I weighed myself a few minutes ago and I was neither horrified nor satisfied! Which means I'm the same and that seems like a New Year Celebration right there. No damage! I am dancing in the form of walking lunges right now. Because, like it or not, January First is a good time to reinforce improvements.

January Pledges
  • Write more.
  • Laugh more.
  • Stop stressing out about people that you don't even like. Address and dismiss girl. They're fine where they are. Leave them there.
  • But be nicer. Guess what? It's nice to be nice. Today was day one - Nice!
  • Allow no doldrums this month. No, the sun probably won't shine, but who cares! Life is fantastic! The so-exciting-I-might-pee parts and the it's-Tuesday-and-I-get-to-watch-RHOBH parts. All good.
  • Deep as a puddle can be entertaining, but maybe only to you.
  • Chubby and aged is prized in some cultures. You might want to move there! hehehe
  • To fight sadness about the above, remember the lovely doctor that repeatedly hit on you during Pup's stay a couple of months ago. Took me until hit #3 to get it. #notverybright #somelikeityourway #itdidtakemymindoffwhatwashappening #deepasapuddle
  • See above and alleviate the #deepasapuddleitis you can have. Find meaning.
  • With this thought, leave the hashtags to others. You are annoying more than just yourself.  :)
  • Again, with this said, never give up your mad love for the emoticon. Some things are classic. Plonk!
It's a beginning.

Make It, Don't Break It

If you don’t know where you are going, you might wind up someplace else.
~ Yogi Berra

Don’t wish it was easier, wish you were better. Don’t wish for less problems, wish for more skills. Don’t wish for less challenges, wish for more wisdom.
~ Jim Rohn

You can have everything in life you want if you will just help enough people get what they want.
~ Zig Ziglar

You don’t have to be great to get started, but you have to get started to be great.
~ Les Brown

Though no one can go back and make a brand new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand new ending.

Keep your face to the sun, and you will never see the shadows.
~ Helen Keller

Happiness is a habit – cultivate it.
~ Elbert Hubbard

We are one week into the new year. How are you meeting your goals? Do you have an action plan? Do you have motivation enough? Are you keeping your momentum?

Goals are the mitigating factor in all success. I want to keep the goal ahead in my windshield and the obstacles behind me in the rear-view mirror.

New Year, New Rear

We brought in the new year with friends.

First going to a great movie (Mission Impossible - sooooo good!) then heading back to our house to have steak, yams for the girls, potatoes for the boys, salad, wine, and assorted snacks.

It started snowing around 11:00 and since we haven't seen hardly any this year (so weird) we all ran like little kids (well, Pup and his friend Doug did anyway) to look at it.

It was sticking to all the bare trees and grasses and seriously turning our little neighborhood in the hood into a beautiful paradise.

That's why we live here. When just something as simple as an one inch snowfall can turn brown and dumpy into white and glittery - well, it's enchanting.

Cut to this morning.
I wish I was a get-it-all-cleaned-up-before-I-go-to-bed girl. I always want to be. Truth is, when the fun evening is over, I want to get to bed with my Pup and snuggle in the big huge bed.

But then you wake up to this.
So . . . right now Pup is whining that I better hurry and get my arse ready cuz he wants some breakfast at Denny's (can you believe?) because he knows there will be no breakfast-making in this kitchen right now.

Yes sweetie, right after I wake up.

Whether you resolution or not, whether you celebrated big or small, have the best first day of the new year. It's all good my hooches.

Old Habits Die Hard or How to Grow Your Ass in 90 Days

Or something. Tell me to run, RUN from this. Get your ass out of the store pronto-pup.

Can you see the longing in those eyes? Can you see the resolve draining away? Can you imagine the sugar crash that may happen later?

Could someone please please explain to me why getting to the club isn't nearly as easy as settling down in an enormous recliner to watch me some trash TV?

Could someone explain why I want Doritos as soon at it's dark at 5 p.m?

EXPLAIN THIS TO ME!

The Resolutioners

You know them. They crowd into your gym, hogging all the ellipticals, not following the rules, sitting their bare arses on the benches in the locker room (true - this happened to me).

They eat and drink like mad the last week of the year then swear they will change now.

They clean closets, clean their cars, clean their minds.

I'm one. I never want to be one, but I am.

As much as it is cliché to start anew at this time of the year, what better time to do it? It's good. It's time. It's the thing to do.

I'm only smug because I started a few weeks ago. Resolutions for the new year are so 2009. Ha!

Promises

  1. I won’t add music to my blog. I love me some good music, but people!, your music is annoying. (Is that complaining? See below.)
  2. I won’t apologize only to please. No prisoners just might be something I need to embroider on a pillow. If I remembered how.
  3. I won’t give up coffee. I swear to give up stuff all the time, but coffee will not be on that list. Ever. LOVE IT.
  4. I won’t judge. No one loves a cranky-ass.
  5. I won’t avoid. It’s a slippery place to live.
  6. I won’t procrastinate. Well . . . can I get back to you on that one?
  7. I won’t stop learning. I had a conversation with a woman a few years older than me who had also lost her job. She declared she was, “too old to learn anything new” and was not going to bother thinking about it. WTH.
  8. I won’t complain. Get over my damn self.
  9. I won’t be a resolutioner. Be steady.
  10. Lastly, I won’t be unhappy. Happy is the best accessory.

Are you thinking about promises?
