Sweet, Sweet Sleep

I have insomnia.

Bad.

Real bad.

I'm up right now at 1:30 a.m. That wouldn't be so bad if I hadn't been up most of the night last night, and the night before.

Why, oh why?

I'm constantly on the hunt for a way to sleep.

Melatonin - made me have crazy-ass, semi-scary dreams. I still have a bottle in the bathroom.

5HTP - crazy dreams, but more just disturbing rather than doom-filled.

Potatoes, Not Prozac - this actually helped for a while. I didn't like eating potatoes just before bed. Plus I'm a lazy-ass and more often than not I didn't have any at the ready. And I'm trying to go easy on carbs. See what I mean? Lazy-ass.

Magnesium supplement - I haven't given this one a fair chance as of yet.

So, here I am. It's dark. It's cold in this office. The dog is snoring away. The cat has abandoned me since I had to put him on Prozac (long story you do not want to hear). And I'm a little lonely.

I've twisted my hair into spirals on my head. If someone knocked on the door right now I would ignore them for fear of scaring the living crap out of them. I look pretty weird.

It puts me in the mood to make a list!

Things to do:
  1. Finish varnishing doors in house. It's only been 18 months since I stained them. What's the hurry?
  2. Organize my office for the 15th time. Where does all this shit come from anyway? You'd think I was a procrastinator or something. Ha!
  3. Stay off the gad damn sugar. Seriously. It will kill you, you dumbass. Oh! Was that harsh? Too bad! I hate that I love that damn shit.
  4. I know it is as windy as standing under a helicopter out there, but get out side and pick up George's dog-bombs. They aren't going to go away on their own. Amazing how six short months of his unrepentant pooping makes a huge shit-storm for me. Heh.
  5. Get a plan for your new little garden. Pick stuff you'll actually eat. Yes, you can do it. Focus.
  6. Turn up the hot tub every day. You own it and deserve a nice soak. It's heaven, it's free, and it's yours. Do it!
Ooooooh, I feel much better. Not sleepy, but much better.

Funny how being up late makes me want to turn on all the lights and vacuum.

It this bad?

Welcome to my club. I don't have nearly as much trouble sleeping anymore, as long as I can choose my own hours. I usually head to bed around 4am and wake up around 11. When something interferes with my schedule or I have to wake up early, to an alarm clock... whoa momma... I can be downright dangerous. That's going to be a real problem for me for the next four days. I've got two of the grandkids and they don't keep my hours. Hope I survive. Hope they survive, too.

I'm a world-class insomniac. Go to bed between 3-3:30 am, wake up briefly between 6-7:30 am, eventually fall back to sleep, and wake up between 10-10:30 am.

Doesn't that sound like fun? : )

You are not alone are you? A regular routine helps. If I nap early in the evening, it throws off the routine. Normally I fall asleep in seconds, there is no TV in the bedroom. But once in awhile, sigh...

I'm headed to work now...without adequate sleep as usual. We share our sleep problem with millions and millions of other folks. I know that doesn't make you or I feel any better about it, just saying.

I'll be thinking about you today, as always.. ;D

When I get into a rut, as in two or three sleep deprived days (damn middle age)... I take two benadryl and it knocks me out for a good seven hours. It's not a cure, but it gets me out of the no-sleep cycle and usually lasts a while.

I feel your pain about your # 1 on the list. I stripped, stained, and polycoated EVERY DOOR in my house. Took me damn near 2 years to do it, because I pissed around about it.

As far as the insomnia, try eating Turkey instead of potatoes.

The tryptophan should do the trick.

Yes, it's a problem of the masses, I think. Especially those of us not-so-young anymore. I am usually watching HGTV at 2 a.m. Have to set two alarms to get my ass up and even then I sometimes fall back to sleep after both go off and bound out of bed when I realize I'm s'posed to be at work in 30 minutes.

I need to sit down and make a list.

Oh you poor dear. Really potatoes?? Oh I know all about Melatonin and the dreams. I take two Benadryl now (plus helps clear my sinuses)but I have a feeling you've already tried it. Hang in there!

Ms A - So many people have this problem! It's amazing. I'm so envious of good sleepers like my Pup.

JJ - every night? Oh that's not good!

RJ - sound like you have a good routine.

Mr. B-man - I know you have this problem too, I don't know how you do it for so long! It makes me a bit insane.

Karen and CL - you know what? I've never done the Benadryl. I've done Tylanol PM, but not that one. I am going to try it.

Heff - turkey is a good idea as well.

deb - I've had this problem since my 30s, but getting older certainly has not helped. How do you stand it every day like that? Hugs girl.

I feel your pain on this one for sure. My house is often spotless at 3am. What the hell.

Your blog is fun.

I tried PNP too, and still keep it in mind when figuring out what to eat, but I am also super lazy. I have nooooooo problem sleeping; in fact, I have more problems not sleeping!
